Is it possible to heal from paralysis?

On Behalf of | Apr 23, 2022 | Personal Injury |

An accident can be life-changing, especially if it results in the paralysis of you or a loved one. Many may wonder what the future holds, or if paralysis is permanent.

Some may wonder if they are able to get compensation for what they have experienced, or not. They may also wonder if they will be able to eventually heal and move on.

What is paralysis?

Paralysis occurs when there has been an injury to the spinal cord. The injury typically prevents the nerves in certain parts of your body from communicating with your brain. This means that you will be unable to control your muscles in that area of your body. These types of injuries most often occur as a result of car accidents, or during some sports.

Can you heal paralysis?

While it is possible to heal some temporary forms of paralysis, like Bell’s Palsy, the reality is that it is typically not possible to heal an injury to the spinal cord. Often, this means that paralysis is permanent. To adapt, some may obtain special equipment that helps them to move and function on a day-to-day basis.

If you or a loved one has become paralyzed due to an accident, you may feel afraid and unsure about what to do next. While it is a challenging situation to deal with, that does not mean that you are without options. By doing your research you can find the right people to provide you with the help that you or your loved one deserves.
